DeAnne Hardy:
I was certified in Zumba over a year ago and have been teaching it for a year now. It is so much fun and I'm so happy that I have the opportunity to share it
with others. Prior to teaching Zumba, I was a Tribal Belly dance instructor for over three years. I taught for Portland Community College and Cedar Hills Rec Center. I perform and have taught
Mexican Folklore dance
Prior to going to Mexico I studied Tribal Belly dance with Caravan Studios for nearly five years. While dancing at Caravan studios I had the great fortune to assist one of my favorite dancers, Diana Bright. Her excellent ability to teach the moves, the music and the soul of the dance transformed me as a dancer. I owe a great deal of my musicality to her. My other mentor was Jennette who's grace and elegance was inspirational. I aspire to be an instructor like Diana or Jennette when I teach! Prior to tribal I studied Cabaret style belly dance for one year. I have been in traditional dance since I was four years old taking classes in ballet, jazz and tap. After my first two years of college I began to explore other styles and rhythms of dance. In addition to my dance background I have dedicated myself to weight and endurance training over the past two years.
I have fun practicing Zumba with my two sons who like the
Reggaeton, Merengue and Pop songs the most. They always want me to skip the
Salsa songs (which are my favorite, but I say that about EVERY song). I continue to stay in tune with Latin rhythms by going dancing at parties and clubs. I had no idea when I trained in Zumba what a great fit it
would be in my life. Now I get to bring the joy of the moves and music I love
and the benefit of a great cardio workout to others!
